What’s not to love about the “If you give a….” series by Laura Numeroff?
“If You Give a Dog a Donut” is no exception. This story is silly, engaging and my daughter loves all things dog related, so it was a big hit!
After reading the story, we made our own craft donuts. We cut the center out of small paper plates. Then using a cotton ball, we painted the donuts with our favorite frosting choices. While the paint was still wet, we sprinkled confetti onto the plates. (You can also use a glue stick after the paint dries).
For us, this activity was just for fun. However, you could easily turn it into a lesson about colors and shapes if you wanted. Instead of using confetti from the store, your preschooler could cut out his/her own confetti using construction paper. This would lend itself to having a conversation about different shapes/colors and using those for the confetti instead.
To finish up, as a special treat, we reread the story while enjoying a real donut and of course some apple juice to go with it 😉
Little learners today, leaders tomorrow… happy creating!
